UK VS US
These two posters are for the same film 'St Trinians', however the top ones was used to advertise the film in the UK and the bottom was used to advertise the film in America
There are obvious differences between the two posters; for example the UK one has a traditional school background, as opposed to the americans yellow spotlight like background. The background for the UK production may of been used as the British audience can relate and recognise the school background and atmosphere, whereas the American audience would not. The American background makes the characters seem heroic and superhero like, which will appeal to the American audience more so.
Within the UK poster all the characters are apparent and are pictured on a tilt to connote anarchy. Whereas only a few of the characters are pictured on the American poster. This may be because the majority of the American audience will only go to see a film if they see iconic, well-known actors/actresses. This may be the reason why Misha Barton's name is visible on the American, as she was a hit american actress in the american program 90210. Russell Brand is also pictured much clearer on the American version, as at the time the film was released he was becoming a well-known British actor in America. And therefore by them both being featured on the American poster will encourage audiences.
The typography used on both posters are completely opposing also. The British typography for the title is stamp-like, pink and connotes rebellion through its use of skull imagery etc... It also looks very British as it has the school cote of arms apparent with it also, which is something that is notoriously used in British schools. Whereas the American poster's typography is completely different, and plain but with the addition of a few swirls, which connotes that it is a teen film. However, the typography is red which connotes rebellion and badness, whereas the pink used in the British poster connotes teenage girls.
The slogans on the posters are too different the British one is 'School can be a riot', and the American is 'School for bad girls.' The British poster seems to be advertising the anarchic, rebellion of the characters against the school. Whereas the American poster seems to be sexualising the characters through their slogan, and larger pictures of the characters. They have also made Collin Firth look more masculine within his pose for the American poster, which again gives him sex appeal.
